Social Media: Why Do We Love it so Much? defines social media as forms of electronic communication (such as websites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (such as videos).

How many people do you know that don’t use social media? I’m sure is not many.

Social Media has become a part of us. We are constantly either creating content for it, gathering information from there or simply using it as a method to communicate with other people that may share our same interests.

I believe the reason social media is so appealing is because of the access to information, and the flexibility to share what we like. Social Media started as something very simple like sharing cute pictures and connecting with other people. Now it has become a huge platform that has developed even jobs for the so called “influencers.”

Social Media continues to grow day by day with changes and updates that continue to keep people engaged and interested in engaging with the platforms. More and more people are okay with sharing their most personal information on social media. Even the way we process information has changed, our attention span is different now than what it was before social media. We are constantly switching from one platform to the other skimming through information rather than actually reading full articles.

I’ve noticed that when guys are trying to pick up girls they no longer ask for a phone number, now it’s “Let me have your Instagram,” that’s how much we use social media and value it.

There is a lot of positive to it, but like anything there’s also the negative side to it.

Cyberbullying is a huge part of it. People feel more entitled to bully others through social media than they would in person, and this goes for regular people and celebrities.

I believe social media is here to stay for a very long time. It will continue to change and adapt to its user’s needs to continue keeping us engaged and active.
